Terry Prattchet, also known as HIPERPRODUCTION! 25 novels in less the 15 years, MAN THAT IS SOMETHING! And every one of them 500 pages thick! As you might suspect some of them tend to be lame… But not this one… Matrix kind of stunts, James Bond secret agent on world tour kind of gadgets, little Tibetan monks, Karate Kid, Master Yoda, time warping, good guys, bad guys, bad guys that are on good side, good guys that are on bad side, creatures from other dimensions and a lot of chocolate and dairy products. Oh did I mention four or five horsemen of apocalypse. Ok it all sounds like a complete mess and that usually means lamenessness, but it’s not. Actually it’s funny, and that is what this sort of books is supposed to be? Right? Yeah right? This one is not dry it’s all fruity. Has some nice action scenes (in a book wow!... well times are changing). Characters are interesting but that is no surprise from this author. Plot is original enough (rare thing these days), it starts in two directions right a way… tricky thing for a writer to handle if he only just got his drivers license but old boy Terry knows his craft (no wonder with so much practice, but practice is a good right?). Well story line starts in two directions, it wiggles and twists and turns and then all parts intersect at full speed and BANG! You have nothing, but just for a moment… while whole thing picks up speed again. Like a rollercoaster… only without losing your lunch/dinner. Terry P has a nasty habit of killing me with his long endings to the story… like these movies where bad guy just doesn’t wanna die like he is soposed to do so people have to kill him like 20 or so times. Surprisingly he ends this one just in time! Maybe with too much sugar, yankee style (but his English make no mistake!)… All in all it’s maybe too sfx kind of looking, I don’t know… This lite literature not philosophy. Reading Pratchett is a nasty habit, hard to explain hard to shake… but if you have to read Pratchett go for this one!
